The 7th Street PAL Coalition is a program of CFN funded through the federal Drug Free Community grants.

This Neighborhood Institute will focus on educational achievement and educational equity.

It will be designed with the flexibility to meet the unique goals of the class participants.
Issues of greatest concern and interest to perspective participants will be used to develop the curriculum through core topics that reflect these areas of concern. Advice of professional educators, parents and research on best practices will be woven into this core training.

The Vision
To reduce the incidence of substance abuse by young people residing in the 7th Street Corridor of Central Louisville through a collaborative coalition that coordinates resources through public policy, laws, revenue and strategy development.

Purpose of Neighborhood Institute
• Explore roles of parents/guardians as advocates in the school system
• Parents partner with other parents for encouragement and leadership
• Community, school, and parent partnerships
• Review student achievement data and information
• Cultural sensitivity dialogues
• Build individual and community assets
• Consensus-building and problem solving
• Passions developed through projects

Neighborhood Projects
Part of the Neighborhood Institute curriculum includes a self-directed project in the community. Through the class projects, people become engaged in the community as they branch out and apply the information and knowledge from the class to real life situations.

Issues Covered
A group of residents consisting of parents and/or guardians who would like to provide leadership in parent-school-community partnerships will share in the process of understanding advocacy for their students and JCPS. Our aim is to bring parents and schools together, create family-friendly schools, and have the participants design and implement a project addressing the issues of relevance
for the participants. This class will be fun, interactive, and you will meet friends sharing similar concerns.
