KY-ASAP REGION 6 Policy Statement- Alcohol
The KY- ASAP Region 6 Board supports the following policy positions:
YOUTH ACCESS: The Board is in favor of laws that limit youth access to alcohol in any form and supports efforts to increase monitoring and education of retail vendors as well as laws which expand the ABC’s authority in these areas. The Board strongly opposes marketing to youth and product placement that entices youth, and we support all laws that restrict these.
BEVERAGE SERVER TRAINING: We support mandatory server training for individuals who sell or serve alcohol in a retail setting.
INCREASED TAXES/ FINES: We encourage legislation which increases the amount of taxes on alcoholic beverages and the amount fines for violations of existing alcohol law, and we encourage the use of these funds for prevention and treatment programs.
INCREASED TREATMENT OPPORTUNITIES: We support legislation that would increase the number of available treatment beds/programs and improves access to them.
INFORMATION DISSEMINATION: We support the dissemination of information to the legislator and the courts.
YOUTH DRUG COURTS: We support funding for both adult and youth drug courts and related programming, and, of a more general nature;
• We encourage the collection of useful data and the free dissemination of it.
• We encourage the use of research validated programs and approaches in prevention and treatment.
• We encourage efforts to educate and engage stake-holders and members of the community.
• We discourage cooperation and/or accepting funding/resources from any entity that manufactures, distributes, markets or in any way supports tobacco, alcohol or other mood-altering drugs.
• We encourage and support legislation which requires and/or funds integration of medical, mental health and substance abuse treatment.
